The Airport Mail Center OHare facility officially opened on July 5, 1956 with approximately 24,000 square feet of floor space and a work force of less than 250 employees. Due to an increase in mail volume and a need to upgrade to new technology, the facility relocated into a new building in May 1967. This new building was approximately 142,350 square feet with an accompanying work force that expanded to over 600 employees.
